In March 2017, I was awarded an apprenticeship (a collaboration between Bristol Media and social enterprise Babbasa) to attend SXSW and visually document it. My role over the week was to create visual reportage illustration of the events taking place at the festival, including keynote speakers, convention centres, and panel discussions. I had access to every area of the festival, and during this time got to present my work to Gary Vaynerchuk and representatives from NASA. The apprenticeship was designed to provide more opportunities to young creatives within Bristol, and allow them to attend and gain experience creating content at a large scale convention.
From this I went on to talk about my experiences publicly at the Babbasa networking event, and my illustrations were featured on the report from the 'UK Science & Innovation Network' talk on smart cities, which I attended and illustrated during my time there.
